Hocking Hills for Landscape Photographers

Hocking Hills State Park is a wonderland for landscape photographers. Located in southeastern Ohio, the park is reported to draw 2 million-plus visitors to the region every year! The park is known for its sandstone gorges, recess cliffs, and waterfalls - all with an accent of Eastern Hemlock trees to give the area pops of color even in the winter.

There are several use areas within the state park, including the Old Man’s Cave, Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, Rock House, Cantwell Cliffs, and the Whispering Cave area. Nearly 25 miles of trails exist within the park - from longer loop trails connecting some of the major use areas to a myriad of shorter park-and-hike trails - Hocking Hills State Park offers a myriad of photographic opportunities for regional landscape photographers.

Landscape Photography Workshops in Hocking Hills

With the Hocking Hills region being close to me - it is one of my favorite areas to lead landscape photography workshops in. Offering a variety of subjects - from the waterfalls to the textures of the sandstone gorges and slump blocks, to the woodlands and eastern hemlocks, the possibilities for landscape photography in the area is near limitless.

Every season is different in the Hocking Hills region with spring, fall, and winter fall being my favorites for landscape photography (can I have three favorites?). Though there are opportunities for landscape photography in the summer - the park can be crowded and the flow of the waterfalls can be diminished if it isn’t shortly after a rainy period.

Because of that - most of my photography workshops take place in the spring and fall - where either the waterfalls are more apt to be running or the fall colors are making their appearance.

My landscape photography workshops in Hocking Hills typically focus on the following landscape photography essentials and unless noted otherwise are perfect for beginning to intermediate landscape photographers.

  • Camera basics

  • Using Camera Settings to Affect the Exposure and Depth of Field

  • Landscape Photography Gear

    • Tripods

    • Filters

  • Composition to Help Your Images Tell a Story

Why a Landscape Photography Workshop in Hocking Hills?

There are three reasons why a Hocking Hills landscape photography workshop might be just the thing for you!

  1. You want to learn more about your camera and camera settings to improve your landscape photography.

  2. You want to make the most of your photography time in Hocking Hills and don’t have the time to plan your photography outing, plus pick up some tips and tricks to improve your landscape photography.

  3. You aren’t local and want to be sure you see the highlights of Hocking Hills so you head back home with amazing landscape photography images. And maybe pick up a few landscape photography tips and tricks along the way.

Hocking Hills Landscape Photography Workshop Options

I have THREE options for attending a Hocking Hills Landscape Photography workshop!

Scheduled Landscape Photography Workshop

Attend one of my scheduled workshops listed on my Main Workshops Page. These are workshop dates I have scheduled that cover a specific range of topics and visit specific areas of the Hocking Hills State Park.

These workshops are a great way to head out for a day to learn more about landscape photography, see some amazing locations in the park, and hang out with other landscape photographers for the day!

Custom Landscape Photography Workshop

These workshops are custom in that we can work together to find a date for your group and tailor the topics and location within the park to your group!

Have a landscape photography topic that is more advanced or struggling with one particular area of your photography? We can put an emphasis on that topic in a custom workshop for you!

Or maybe the dates just don’t match up with what works for you and your group. I can run a workshop just for your group on a date we determine that falls outside my normally scheduled workshop.

Or maybe you want to visit a region of the park that isn’t included in my scheduled workshop. In most cases - we can make that happen!

If you want the custom landscape photography workshop experience, contact me via the Contact Form on this website and let me know approximately how many people would be in the group and what you have in mind. Not sure yet? Just let me know and we can have a conversation on what custom workshop option will work best for your group!

1-2-1 Landscape Photography Workshop

If groups aren’t your thing - I do offer 1-2-1 photography mentoring. These are all about you!

We can work on specific topics, visit particular regions within the park, or sometimes just see more places than we could with a group - I can help! This option is completely customized to your landscape photography needs.

Contact me via the Contact Form on this website and we’ll have a conversation about what option will work best for you!
